Description

This “Facilitating towards Racial Justice” Spark Deck was co-created with ideas from Mike Beebe, Colette Cann, Fong Marcolongo, Atiya McGhee, Eva Jo Meyers, Stephanie Rynas, Aminta Steinbach, Kimberly Williams Brown, Oscar Wolters-Duran, Sarah Moss Yanuck, and Anna Yeakley.

Ideas from these cards include:

  • When facilitating a decision-making process (e.g. when hiring, making programmatic changes, setting organizational policy), explicitly identify and discuss how potential options might either perpetuate or reduce systemic racism.
  • Walk participants who hold privilege because of their skin color through a protocol of how to acknowledge when they have done harm in the space (e.g. take responsibility, listen, sincerely apologize).
  • Invite people to name their racial identity in evaluation or feedback forms. Notice how different racial groups may have responded to the session differently. What patterns do you notice? What can you do to improve for next time?
